Faith Market April Report

By Teresa Adams

I worked with the Pottawatomie County Farm Bureau and their “End Hunger” grant program. This is a state wide effort to fight food insecurity and strengthen local communities. The Faith Market was awarded this grant, 250 pounds of ground beef. On March 26, Sammi Eckert and Cole Baumgartner (the farmer) delivered 415 pounds of ground beef. Food pantries in Westmoreland, Onaga and St. Mary’s received 80 pounds each. The Faith Market is truly blessed with this donation.

I received word the Short Stop in St. Mary’s was dispensing Papa John’s pizzas, about 100 per week. After making several contacts and submitting the proper paperwork, I’m now picking up pizza’s twice a week. Two trips collected 174 pizzas.

Faith Market continues to coordinate with The Malones to pickup items from the Alma Dollar General. During the last two weeks of March and first week of April, we picked up 884 pounds of food and drinks. Items include but not limited to eggs, milk, fresh fruit, and vegetables, ice cream, frozen burritos and pizzas, snack cakes, and lemonade. Kudos to Marilyn and Phil Mahan for picking up and delivering the items.

Due to the amount of donated frozen items, a new freezer was purchased for the Faith Market.

Faith Market served 50 families in April: 74 Adults, 62 Children, 17 Seniors.
